Lora’s presentation will be a 90 minute demo for hand-builders and wheel-throwers. It’s all about the surface texture for Lora Rust’s presentation! Lora will demonstrate her signature technique of pushing the clay using her personally designed tools (available for sale). She will texture a cup, a small bowl and a vase with lush patterns. She will discuss ideas about design and composition, discussing the relationship of surface texture to the form, share tips on keeping the shape of the piece while manipulating the surface, show design shortcuts using a grid and the tool contours. She’ll save some time for details how to make the texture “pop” when finished. Participants will receive handouts related to Lora’s presentation and be able to try out her unique texturing technique on a small sample slab, using samples of some of Lora’s tools.
