Lora Groton Rust, Elegant Porcelain Designs
As a functional ceramic artist my goal is to bring a touch of lushness and elegance to the dinner table, vanity or anywhere in the home. My passion for my craft comes from an abundance of ceramic art in our home growing up.

During a 2 year Assistantship program at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta, GA from 2006 – 2008, I built a solid foundation and developed my own style, applying innovative techniques for surface textures and glazes.

Working in a porcelain clay body, my stylized technique is a process of striking and moving the clay with handmade wooden tools. No clay is removed or carved away.

The designs and patterns found in Gothic Architecture mixed with the fluidity of the Art Nouveau period are strong influences for my work. Additional inspiration from fashion design helps me capture a certain movement of the texture on the form.

I currently fire to cone 6, oxidation, using a broad color palette and variety of glazes to enhance the patterns and texture of my pieces. My hope is to create forms with a lush and fluid texture that beg to be touched.
